Eastern Bay of Islands Preservation Society

We are a group of local people with Ipiriri (the islands of the Bay of Islands) regarded as our place, our heart.

The eastern Bay of Islands has to be one of the finest stretches of water and coastline on earth. Bush-covered headlands point toward idyllic islands, sheltered seas lead eventually to the open ocean, beautiful coves alternate with rocky points.

The Eastern Bay of Islands Society Inc was formed in 1975 with the purpose of providing a a channel through which appropriate representation could be made to regional, local/district and government authorities on planning, preservation and conservation of the Bay of Islands and for joint action to be taken where appropriate.

The Society reviews policy and planning and makes submissions on Council plans, both relating to land issues and coastal marine issues. We comment on the scale and appropriateness of private and public planned property developments – on the land as well as on and within the coastal marine area.

The Society works with all parties to ensure that each and every development from Paroa Bay in the west to Cape Brett and down to Taupiri Bay in the east is carried out in accordance with appropriate controls and reflect the special nature of this outstanding landscape region.
